Future Zombie is the first release from J-Short.

Some of you may know J from the forever growing rap battle league that is Don't Flop, some of you may not, but that makes no difference here!

The 9 track mixtape starts off wtih 'God Level' a heavy intro with a hard beat and fast flows. You can still hear the battle rapper in him, but that soon changes as it leads into 'Colour blind' you can feel the whole mixtape is about to make a sudden U-Turn and in effect, a more bona fied approach, an honest outlook of his surrounding and the streets he walks every day.

When you're a battle rapper, you are perceived as this hard nosed, egotistical moron, when in fact, it 's an act. A rap battle is indeed that, a battle of lyrics you enter with the intention of winning. you have to deceive your audience and try to convince them that everything you're saying about your opponent, in bar form, is gospel.

So amongst all the ball busting, the real person is lost. The audience forgets that these 'Actors' are real people, with real opinions and emotions.

J has used this mixtape to tell us about his true self. Judging from his lyrics, he's a deep thinker. He has values and morals and often doubts himself and his ability, like most reputable human beings do.

The self doubt is something I will soon slap out of him though. if this mixtape is anything to go by, he has a great future ahead of him.

Many artists make simple mistakes when putting together a mixtape. They'd sooner pick a beat for its intense baseline, than choose something that fits the concept and own personal style. J seems to know what compliments him best and having produced 3 out of the 9 tracks, his beat choices are somewhat beautiful.

I was going to give you a run down of the tracks, but, nah. I want you to go download 'Future Zombie' and pay attention, you may learn something!

MY personal favourites are 'I see Fire' & 'Whisky Wrote This' which uses a sample of Elena Tonras (Daughters) 'Medicine'

If i could sum this mixtape up in one word, it would simply be

'Reflective'
